Fashion Week Favourites: Prabal Gurung

Apologies for being absent for nearly a week! I just started my second year of university and the amount of work and the daily commute has exhausted me. So, here's my catching up with the last of the NYFW shows and the new LFW shows!

One of the most well-receieved shows at NYFW was the flamboyantly feminine collection of Prabal Gurung. The endless reviews have been bursting with praise for the Nepalese/American designer whose dresses have recently been seen on Michelle Obama and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The Spring palette was dominated by a shocking bright purple, but expertly merged with beautiful floral prints for a striking effect. However, if you inspect the floral prints more closely, you can see that the flowers are withering- and that was not the only secretly naughty element to his show.

There were little hints of fetish in the collection with the black harnesses worn over the dresses, to contrast with the lurid girly florals. The materials used were also very anti-girly- cheeky sheer panelling, cut-out sides and lots of leather and lacquered latex for a subtle sexy feel.

The cut of the eveningwear dresses- particularly the black one worn by the stunning Karlie Kloss (last picture)- verged on dangerously revealing, but still managed to be elegant and powerful . Even the accessories were incredible. The unusually shaped sunglasses are a Spring must-have and the strappy stilettos- a collaboration with Nicholas Kirkwood- are further proof that the pointy heels are back.

Definitely one of the best collections so far.

My favourite looks from the Prabal Gurung show:
