Imitation of Christ has had a turbulent time as a fashion label. Under the control of actress/designer Tara Subkoff, it has gone bust a number of times over the years and even had Chloe Sevigny at the helm for a brief period of time. Spring 2013's surprise offering was not so much a fashion show as a statement of societal pressure on women. The pieces, modelled by the most diverse collection of (real) women of different ages, colours and sizes, didn't strut their way down a catwalk but stood in front of their own gold gilded mirror and preened at themselves, quite like you yourself do when getting dressed at home. They were surrounded by piles of clothes on the floor- a statement by Subkoff- that the clothes are not the point, women are. And the title? "This Is Not a Fashion Show".
Despite it apparently not being a fashion show, there were some amazing pieces on offer, with the trademark Imitation of Christ vintage vibe. Exuberant fabrics with a casual edge were the key look and it was a true mix of styles, to portray how different every woman is when it comes to clothes.
Here are some of the standout pieces of Imitation of Christ Spring 2013:
