After a turbulent summer frequenting gossip columns across the globe, Katie Holmes has kept a low profile to focus on her fashion label, Holmes & Yang, co-created with her stylist Jeanne Yang. The first ever Holmes & Yang collection was debuted at New York Fashion Week to some serious critical acclaim last week, cementing Holmes into the celebrity/fashion designer category which was, up until now, only home to Victoria Beckham, Nicole Richie and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. A varied collection it had a relaxed, sports luxe vibe with bomber jackets and jumpsuits but with a side of femininity with a series of cutesy dresses right alongside. Although it was small- less than 20 looks- it was clear that each look was carefully crafted and properly thought out. Leather, silk and even cable-knit made a healthy contribution to the collection, jazzing up pieces such as a camisole or cardigan, keeping them on the right side of basic. A sterling effort from Holmes and Yang, both of whom have stayed true to their original styles and not pushed it too far, letting the clothes- casual yet covetable- speak for themselves.
