Somerset by Alice Temperley for John Lewis

Her name was among those whispered fervently back in April 2011, before fashion's best kept secret was revealed- alas, it was Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen but many expected it not to be. A firm favourite of the Duchess of Cambridge and the Middleton family alike, Alice Temperley is considered to be up there with the very best Britain has to offer. Temperley London is sold in some 300 stores in 37 different countries, its younger sister brand ALICE by Temperley is sold in some of the most prestigious department stores around the world and her bridalwear boutique is one of the most established and coveted in the UK. Now, Alice Temperley is set to take over the high street,  with an exclusive collection for John Lewis

Launching online and in stores across the UK from today (September 4th), Somerset by Temperley for John Lewis is Temperley's first ever high-street venture. Named after the county in which she grew up, the collection is full of traditional and classic pieces that appeal across the age spectrum. Evening wear- her area of expertise- is of course not overlooked, with a selection of floor length gowns and cocktail dresses. Equally there are shorter hemlines and edgier pieces, mainly in leather- a very well-cut leather jacket, a mid-length leather skirt and some very shiny brogues that will attract a younger market than John Lewis is perhaps used to. There is definitely something in this collection for every age and taste, which is something that Temperley herself admits to having in mind when designing this collection. "[John Lewis] offer a larger audience and the ability to create something beautiful, classic and accessible. I have friends from all walks of live, a lot of them want fashionable clothes to look good in but cannot afford the prices of higher end fashion."

The 60 piece collection highlights key trends such as Victoriana ruffles, collars and accessorising, as well as military accents and the signature Temperley lace detailing. Embellishments, intricate embroidery and luxurious fabrics are what Temperley is most famous for, and she has made sure to bring them to this collection, a little more casually to suit a high-street vibe. Prices range from £49 to £999, with every piece working equally as well as a separate as it would altogether. This means getting more for your money with investing in key, essential pieces that will work harder in your wardrobe.
The collection is modelled by a fellow Brit, the gorgeous Lily Donaldson who was recently representing the UK at the Olympic Closing Ceremony.
